Jöttnar launch yak wool baselayer

Jöttnar’s latest addition to their technical range of performance clothing, Uller, is a yak wool base layer.

Designed for mountaineering, skiing and winter climbing, Jöttnar’s clothing is designed for the harshest conditions the mountains can deliver. Uller is manufactured from a unique blend of yak wool and synthetic fibres, giving effective temperature regulation, outstanding warmth and great durability. This unique blend also protects the excellent natural anti-bacterial properties of yak wool. Uller therefore combines the best qualities of both natural and synthetic fibres limiting the build-up of bacteria and unpleasant odours, while also holding its shape for longer and providing greater strength than 100% woollen garments.

“Uller was designed specifically for climbers, skiers and mountaineers operating in severe conditions, using the exceptional properties inherent in yak wool. Yaks spend their lives at altitude – typically between 4,000 and 5,000m – and consequently have evolved over millennia to survive the brutal conditions that are common in such places. Their wool provides greater warmth, superior breathability and more effective moisture transfer by comparison to other materials such as Merino that are commonly used in base layers. It’s also incredibly hard-wearing.” ~ Tommy Kelly, former Royal Marine and Jöttnar co-founder

Kelly added: “Uller is soft to the touch and luxurious to wear offering just the right degree of stretch for active use. The flat locked seams and soft, stand up collar add comfort while the quarter-venting chest zip increases its versatility.”
