Steck and Wohllehen to link alpine 4000ers by bike

This summer, Ueli Steck and Michael (Michi) Wohlleben will tackle a new project – purely for the love of the mountains – to summit all 82 4,000m peaks in the Alps in 80 days, linking them only by bicycle.

Ueli Steck announced the project this weekend to those attending the Arc’teryx Academy in Chamonix, appearing to the crowd through Facetime.

The pair set off on June 10th and reached their first summit, Piz Bernina (4,049m) in Switzerland, the following day. During the 80 days of this ambitious project, they will tick off 82 summits, travel 1,000km by bicycle and complete 100,000m of altitude!

Ueli and Michi, backed by a team that will take photographs and footage (including aerial footage) and provide logistic support, will travel through Switzerland, Italy and France while tackling the 82 peaks using only muscle-power.

You can follow their progress on the #82summits website or watch for updates which are being frequently updated on social media sites.
