Sir Chris Bonington, who recently turned 80 years old, will be discussing his lifetime’s experiences climbing around the world with a special talk on 11th February at the RGS.

To celebrate his birthday, and the last 65 years of his life spent climbing and mountaineering, Sir Chris Bonington repeated one of his famous rock routes in the UK, The Old Man of Hoy (a 449ft pillar of stone in the Orkneys). Sir Chris has led numerous mountaineering expeditions that have resulted in some of the most notable ascents in history, on the most challenging peaks on the planet. The first British ascent of the Eiger’s North Face in 1962, and his expedition to Annapurna’s South Face in 1970 are just two accolades belonging to one of the UK’s greatest mountaineers.

On Wednesday 11th February at 7 – 9pm, join Chris at the Royal Geographical Society, London.

He will be joined in conversation by climbing and exploring friends and family, including Robin Knox-Johnson, Doug Scott, Charles Clarke, Mike Thompson, Jim Fotheringham, Paul Ross, John Porter and Rupert Bonington who together span Chris’s 65 years on rock, snow and ice and have shared with him triumph and tragedy.

This event is in association with the Mountain Heritage Trust, and kindly sponsored by Berghaus.

Tickets are £25, and available from World Expeditions.
