Sir Chris Bonington to receive Piolets d’Or

This weekend the 2015 Piolet d’Or awards for alpinism takes place in Chamonix and Courmayeur and among the recipients is Sir Chris Bonington who will receive the seventh Piolet d’Or Career award; the first of which was presented to Walter Bonatti in 2009.

The Piolet d’Or event starts on April 9th in Chamonix, where there will be a screening of Jeff Lowe’s ‘Metanoia’. The following day will include signings of Sir Chris Bonington’s books, discussions, a buffet and live music by swing band, Hot Savoy Jazz Affair; there will then be a presentation of the Piolets d’Or Career 2015 by Sir Chris Bonington.

The evening will also include a presentation of the Piolets d’Or 2015 ascents which are: Thamserku with Aleksander Gukov and Aleksey Lonchinskiy (Russia), Hagshu with Ales Cesen, Luka Lindic and Marko Prezelj (Slovenia), and Fitz Roy with Tommy Caldwell and Alex Honnold (USA).
