Powermonkey Explorer 2 hits the shops

Following hot on the heels of their superb Powermonkey Expedition (reviewed in Trek & Mountain Aug ‘14 issue), Powertraveller have launched what looks very much like the little brother of the Expedition, called the Explorer 2.

Said by Powertraveller to be the toughest portable charger available on the market today, the Explorer 2 is waterproof for 30 minutes in up to 1m of water when used with the supplied cable. The ridged, anodised aluminium casing provides a secure grip, even if hands are cold or wet, and the cylindrical design makes the unit tough enough to withstand heavy knocks and spills (it will even take the weight of a Range Rover without deforming!). This super-tough build means it will survive the harshest of environments without compromising on charging capabilities, supporting users in any situation.

Powertraveller say that a bike mount accessory will soon be available to attach the device to a bike frame, allowing the user to charge their GPS systems or smartphones whilst riding. The mount can also be attached to tent poles and other outdoor equipment to ensure that the unit is secure whilst charging devices.

Designed so that additional charging options can be added at a later date, the Powermonkey Explorer 2 will eventually have its own hand crank and wind turbine accessories, just like on the Powermonkey Expedition. The ability to add future power generation options sets the product at the forefront of portable charging technology. The Powermonkey Explorer 2 aims to become the flagship of the already award-winning Powertraveller range and further cement the brand’s reputation as charger of choice in the outdoor, adventure, aid and military markets.
